I created a front cover and contents page flat plan on Microsoft Publisher to plan out what my college magazine will look like and included the main features of a magazine.
On the front cover flatplan, the masthead has been placed at the top of the cover as it is the first thing the reader will notice and is one of the most important pieces of information. The main image is the largest part of the cover as it will be the most eye catching part of the magazine and it is important that it stands out. On the right hand side there is the main coverline and about 4 more coverlines and fillers to give the reader more information on what is inside the magazine. The college logo has been placed in the bottom left corner to make it more recognisable and the essential information (issue number/date/price/barcode) in the bottom right.
On the contents flatplan, the masthead is at the top of the page again to show what the page is about(contents), essential information about the contents of the magazine and what pages they can be found on. There are also a number of images to even out the amount of text so that the reader doesn't become uninterested.
Chloe, you have produced your flat plans for your preliminary task, along with a written write up and justification for some of your design choices. When it comes to the main task, I would go into more detail about why you have laid things out as you have, and details on colour etc.
