Key Features of a Magazine Cover

I have created an image on Adobe Photoshop labelling the key features of a magazine cover.

The masthead is the logo/main title of the magazine and is always placed at the top of the page at either the left hand side of the centre. It is continually used throughout every issue making it easily recognisable.

The main coverline of the magazine is smaller than the masthead but larger than the other coverlines. It is the most eye catching coverline and it teases the audience making them want to read more.

The sub-heading is what explains the main coverline in small detail making people want to read on (optional).

The cover lines tell us the stories inside the magazine, giving people an idea of the contents.

Essential information is the date and issue number and other important features like social media and their website.

The image plays a very important role as it is the first thing the reader sees on the cover and it needs to be able to stand out from the other magazines and grab the readers attention immediately. The image also must be conventional to the genre of the magazine.

The colour palette of the magazine is restricted to a few contrasting colours for maximum impact.

The barcode is used to buy the magazine. The price is usually next to the barcode in small font to ensure that people aren't put off.

  1. Chloe, you have produced an image which shows the main features of a magazine cover, as well as providing written explanations of the purpose of each, with accurate use of terminology.
